Instructor

Kimberly Idol

Kimberly Idol began dance classes at Susan’s Dance Unlimited in Kernersville, NC at the age of 4 years old. There, under the tutelage of Susan Bodsford, her passion and drive for dance grew as she studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and gymnastics and competed in regional and national dance competitions and conventions. She was recommended to the Preparatory Dance Program at the North Carolina School of the Arts (now UNCSA) at age 8 and attended supplemental classes in ballet, pointe, and contemporary at the school until enrolling into the full-time high school dance program and committing to studying as a ballet major for the 9th-12th grade. At UNCSA she trained pre-professionally in both ballet and contemporary technique as well as dance composition, improvisation, and acting and had the opportunity to perform in numerous mainstage productions including classic ballets such as Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Giselle, and Ethan Stiefel’s The Nutcracker, as well as pieces by George Balanchine and world premieres in neo-classical works including Susan Jaffe’s Polovtsian Dances. She received supplemental training at summer intensive programs at the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC, Miami City Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Texas Ballet Theatre.

Ms. Kim returned to Susan’s Dance Unlimited in 2013 to begin teaching classes in ballet, tap, and gymnastics. She has also coached recreational and pre-team gymnastics at Asheville Community Movement. Her favorite part of teaching is working with dancers to find their strengths and improve upon their challenges in a supportive environment. She focuses her classes on functional conditioning and progression so that students understand how their bodies work and why they practice each element as well as the cross-connections between different types of dance training. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to use her backgrounds in both competition dance and ballet as a ballet instructor for DC’s company!
